The Lagos State Police Command has charged Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti in Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun’s court in Yaba, Lagos State.

The defendant was charged with assault on a police officer, a violation of Nigerian Criminal Code Act Section 356.

S. A Adebese, the police prosecutor, requested that the defendant be remanded in custody for 21 days pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

However, counsel led by Femi Falana, SAN, pleaded with the court not to remand his client, claiming he was unaware of the remand application.

It was earlier reported that a viral video of Seun Kuti assaulting a police officer on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State emerged on Saturday.
