Tonto Dikeh, a Nollywood actress turned politician, has joined her colleagues in campaigning for Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

The actress, who was nominated as Tonte Ibraye’s running mate for the African Democratic Party’s (ADC) governorship candidate in Rivers State in 2023, took to her verified Instagram page to explain her decision.

She wrote: “The upcoming presidential election is one of the most important events in our country’s history. It will determine the future of our nation, and the person we choose to lead us will have a significant impact on our lives. Therefore, it is imperative that we carefully consider the qualifications of each candidate and choose someone who has the competence, experience, and an excellent track record. Therefore I hereby, willingly Give my Unsolicited support to vote rightly for Mr Peter Obi in the up coming presidential election slated for 25th February 2023…”

Tonto Dikeh had earlier said the ADC would invest “massively in social protection” in Rivers State if they are elected.

“We are looking forward to investing massively in social protection, creating a social value system for young people, increasing women inclusion in our governance system, supporting small businesses and strengthening our traditional institutions to be active players in the drive to bring sustainable development to the good people of Rivers State,” she said in her post last year.

She further thanked Mr Ibraye for her nomination and urged the people to get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) and “join the movement”.

Dikeh’s post on Instagram has garnered over 12, 000 likes and 1,700 comments from her fans who have been congratulating her for the nomination
