Why I didn’t sign Wizkid, Davido – Don Jazzy

Don Jazzy, a seasoned Nigerian producer and music executive, has explained why he declined to sign Wizkid and Davido to his now-defunct record label, Mo’hits.

The CEO of Mavin said that Wizkid had already been signed by EME chairman Banky W when he attempted to sign the Starboy to the label.

He claimed he had the chance to sign Davido but passed because he understood he would be successful without the backing of a record company.

Don Jazzy was also sorry he passed on Simi and Teni. He claimed that the arrangement to sign rapper Falz The Bahd Guy fell through.

He stated this while featuring as a guest on the Leaderboard podcast hosted by Fisayo Fosudo.

He said, “I like Simi, I didn’t sign her. I wish I did. I like Teni, but I didn’t sign her. I wish I did.

“I had the opportunity of signing Davido but I didn’t because I kind of figured that he would be fine. Wizkid, obviously, I couldn’t because Banky W got to him first. That would have been amazing.

“Falz, I love his work. We almost had a deal.”
