Argentina Vice President escapes assassination attempt

Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, the vice president of Argentina, escaped an attempted assasination on Thursday night as a man pointed a gun at her head.

The president’s remarks and the video footage show that the man attempted to pull the trigger, but the gun did not fire. Mrs. Kirchner suffered no harm.

“Cristina is still alive because, for reasons that have not been confirmed technically, the weapon, which was loaded with five bullets, did not fire,” New York Times quoted President Alberto Fernández as saying in an address to the nation. “This is the most serious event since we recovered our democracy.”

The federal police have arrested Fernando Andres Sabag Montiel, 35, a Brazilian.
