Koffi Idowu Nuel, popularly known as Koffi, a Nigerian comedian, has maintained his position that singer, Tekno created afrobeats.

ER reports that Koffi in an interview with Galaxy TV claimed that afrobeats could not transition into the Western world not until Tekno introduced “samples and bounces” to it.

He, went on to say, that Tekno didn’t get the recognition he deserve because he fell ill and didn’t utilise social media.

Koffi stated: “Tekno is the man that created afrobeats. Beat me, fight me, I will defend it to the core.

“Before afrobeats could crossed globally, everybody [artist] was just trying to find it [the appealing sound]. But you see those sampling sounds and then the bounces, it was Tekno that discovered it.

“He was the one that brought ‘Pana’ and did that very nice video, and people were like, ‘Okay oh.’ Then he now handed it over to Davido. ‘If’ and ‘Fall’ by Davido, it was Tekno that created it [the beat], and they were the first two [afrobeats] songs that really went global.

“And then he [Tekno] was the same man that, whilst he was not able to do his thing, gave up ‘Buga.’ He has contributed quietly in a lot of ways. But because he was ill and do not showcase his paying to social media, they relegated him,” he said.

This claim came with heavy criticism as music fans throng to the comedian’s page to drag him. He was however unshaken as he went on to give more summation on his initial position.

Taking to his social media page, Wednesday, Koffi maintained his claim, he wrote:

Before Barrister named it Fuji (After a mountain in Japan) that ethnic vibe was called Were (pronounced wayray).

Afrobeat was created by Fela, as a fusion of jazz, Gbedu, highlife and consciousness.

This new Afrobeats has been a collective effort of several players however the bounce that brought about global penetration was made by Tekno.

Do not disrespect the process with ignorance and myopia.

If you don’t know your history you will be lost in other people’s narrative about you.

The fact that some of us are not all over social media for relevance should not bring about this misnomer.

A people that do not understand contentment and peace of mind will continue to run in a rat race. You qualify success by house, car and ubiquitousness yet most of your favs are saturated and depressed from excessive demands.

It is not everyone that actually wants this fame or everywhere presence.

Most of you who insult entertainers on SM can not even afford to engage their services. True entrepreneurs and business minds who understand the struggle don’t do this on social media. It is the waifs.

Use this social media and data wisely. Follow what the Chinese and Japanese are doing by enhancing their society and kids for a better tomorrow.

Some of you believe that until we all do this junk feeding before we can entertain you. To each his own yet you all complaining that things are not how they used to be when you don’t value or respect real talent.

Celebrate value now that you can. Stop throwing your kings under the bus for traction.
