Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, a leader of the Yoruba Nation, has revealed plans for a 50th birthday celebration.

The 49-year-old, who turns 50 on October 10, said in an Instagram post on Saturday that he did not regret fighting for the freedom of the Yoruba race.

In honour of his birthday, Sunday Igboho declared he would choose 50 of his Instagram followers and send them money.

He said, “The last one and half years have been so challenging, but I found consolation in the fact that it’s all in the quest to deliver and liberate my people, also that my people stood up that the struggle is for all the Yoruba race. My last year birthday met me in the custody of the authorities of Benin Republic where I was remanded, but all thanks to God Almighty and to some personalities that got me out.

“In the spirit of my birthday coming in few days, I will be choosing 50 lucky people to celebrate with from my online family. Selection will be random and without favoritism. They will be blessed each with the same amount. Lucky persons will be listed tomorrow.”

Sunday Igboho is unable to leave Benin Republic following his arrest last year while he was about to travel to Germany with his wife Ropo. His wife was released shortly after the arrest.

When he started leading the fight against herders who were allegedly committing violence in the south-west, the self-determination activist rose to prominence last year.

Sunday Igboho left Nigeria after Department of State Service (DSS) agents searched his home in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on July 1, 2021. He was listed as wanted for, among other things, allegedly stockpiling weapons and ammunition.
