Rita Edochie, an actress and strong admirer of Prophet TB Joshua, has described the BBC documentary about the late founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) as an affront to “black people and the body of Christ”.

The 59-year-old made the remark in a lengthy Instagram post on Thursday, following the release of a three-part documentary about an alleged sexual assault, torture, manufactured miracles, and other incidents on January 8.

Former disciples and supporters of the late televangelist levelled the charges.

Weighing in on the controversy, Rita said people are quick to jump to conclusions in matters that require investigation and she feels sorry for those who make it a habit of escalating topics without proper investigation.

She wrote: “MY TAKE ON TB JOSHUA… I HAVE LISTENED TO SOME PERSONS, CRITICISE INSULTED AND BLACKMAILED THE LATE PROPHET TB JOSHUA ON THE SOCIAL MEDIA. I FEEL REALLY SORRY FOR HUMAN BEINGS, THE BLACK MAN PARTICULARLY SOME OF OUR BLOGGERS, WHO OFTEN PICK AND ESCALATE ON ANY TOPIC WITHOUT REALLY INVESTIGATING, JUST FOR THE SAKE OF MONEY. WE NO LONGER RESPECT THE DEAD AND ALLOW THEM TO BE. THE WORLD HAS TURNED TO SOMETHING ELSE AND LIKE I ALWAYS SAY THE DEVIL HAS TAKEN OVER THE WORLD.

“THE PROBLEM WITH OUR PEOPLE IS THAT THEY ARE ALWAYS IN A HURRY TO JUMP INTO CONCLUSIONS IN MATTERS THAT REQUIRE INVESTIGATION. SOME REPORT MATTERS AS IF THEY WERE AT THE SCENE.”

The actress who is no stranger to SCOAN continued: “THIS STORY ABOUT THE LATE TB JOSHUA WHICH IS MORE OF INSULT ON THE BLACKS AND THE BODY OF CHRIST, WE LEARNT STARTED FROM THE BBC. BUT ONE THING WE FAIL TO REALISE IS THAT THE WHITE MAN NEVER BELIEVES THAT ANYTHING GOOD CAN COME OUT OF THE BLACK RACE, THEY THEREFORE LOOK FOR THE SLIGHTEST OPPORTUNITY TO RUBBISH ANYTHING GOOD THAT COMES OUT OF THERE, PARTICULARLY WHEN IT POSES A CHALLENGE TO THEM. THE WHITE BROUGHT CHRISTIANITY TO AFRICA AND OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD.”

The Anambra-born star added that TB Joshua was a real man of God and no cleric, dead or alive is as popular as him.

Rita’s last known visit to SCOAN was during TB Joshua’s first memorial service on June 5, 2022. She attended the anniversary with her other spiritual father Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Prophet Odumeje, the founder of Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention Deliverance Ministry and actor Jerry Amilo.
