Terry G, a music artist, has disclosed why he declined to deal with Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records and Burna Boy’s Spaceship Record label.

This was revealed by the rapper in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, which was released on Friday.

Signing with these labels, according to Terry G, would have harmed his career because he wanted to be the face of whichever company he signed with.

He said: “I was the problem, my mum said something to me, she said ‘your kind of music is different, different from what your other colleagues are doing if you are gonna be in any record label you are to be the face, if you are not the face you can’t be second’, that mindset that I had. So I met Don Jazzy in 2015, like a week after we met he sent me the contract but I couldn’t sign it cos I already knew where I was coming from.

“That same 2015 I got a call from Burna Boy’s mum, like Burna Boy is there already I can’t be the second face, I have to be the face. So that same 2015 I met Nelson Jack, so I got signed to Nelson Jack because I was the face. I had issues with the record label from the call they said I’m not allowed to drop songs I think for like a year or two I was not allowed to do anything, no interviews no shows, like I was not allowed to do anything.”

Terry G gained prominence on the streets with hit songs like ‘Free Madness’, ‘Run Mad’, ‘So High’, ‘Testing Microphone’, ‘Love Affair’ and Adura’.
