NIDCOM, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, has made a plea for additional information in order to investigate the purported murder of Ikem, a Nigerian student studying in the Philippines.

On October 22, Michael Ojuola, an X user, expressed concern about the purported occurrence.

Ojuola wrote, “A friend of mine, A Nigerian Medical Student named Ikem studying in the Republic of Philippines ???????? was brvtally mvrdered by a group of Chinese. They tied his hands up, covered and tied his mouth and was beaten blue-black until he gave up the gh*st.”

However, spokesman of NIDCOM Abdur-Rahman Balogun, in a statement on Monday, said the commission has called on the said eyewitness to provide more information for the case to be investigated.

The statement reads: “The attention of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has been drawn to a viral social media news item on the death of a Nigerian student, identified as Ikem, who was allegedly murdered by a group of Chinese in the Republic of Philippines.

“Though the matter had not been officially reported to the Nigerian embassy in the Philippines, NIDCOM has asked the “ eyewitness “ who posted the gory incident on his social media handle to provide more details to the Commission’s e-mail — admin@nidcom.gov.ng.

“The Commission will set the machinery in motion to investigate the matter and unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
