Why I decided to produce only Igbo films – Uchenna Nnanna
Uchenna Nnanna, an actress and filmmaker, has stated why she opted to produce only Igbo films.
This was revealed in a recent interview with QEDNG on the red carpet of Toyin Abraham’s film debut.
Uchenna Nnanna stated that she wished to convey Igbo stories in their proper context. She went on to say that because most movies portray Igbos as poor, there is a need to change the narrative.
She said: “As an actor, sometimes, you mighty see some things that are not really going well like when it comes to why I even went for producing Igbo movies, they don’t give it what I want.
“When you hear Igbo movies they will do doing where people are tying only one wrapper, you see people in thatch houses and I ask them are you saying my Igbo people are not rich?” Won’t dress well? Why are you people doing local movies? Reaosn I ventured into producing Igbo movies. And I am glad because when I picked that script and I finished reading it, I said I want to use this film and put my name on the map of Nollywood and it came through. It was a dream come true that the movie won Best Indigenous Film. To God be the glory.”
Uchenna bagged the best indigenous movie (Igbo category) award for her movie Nneka at the 2022 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award (AMVCA) held in Lagos.
