How my past relationships ended because of acting career – Ronke Oshodi

Ronke Oshodi Oke, a Nollywood actress, says that some of her previous relationships ended due to her career.

Ronke recently told Chude Jideonwo that the parents of her ex-lovers rejected her because “their sons cannot marry an actor.”

The 49-year-old actress also revealed that her husband was unaware of her profession until much later in their relationship.

“I used to have some relationships before I got married where they said they do not like actors,” she said.

“The parents said their sons cannot marry an actor. Of course, it made me feel bad because when you have a close relationship, you put your mind on certain things to do.

“But on meeting the parents, they start telling you that you cannot do this because you are an actor. It is like they do not see you as a normal human being.

“My husband never knew who I was before he married me. He lived here in Nigeria but he never knew. He is not a film lover, he likes watching documentaries.

“So he did not know until one day when I went to greet him. I was going back home and people on the streets started saying Ronke Oshodi Oke.

“He asked why people were looking at me, I now said I am an actress. Up until now, he does not watch movies.”

Born Ibironke Ojo-Anthony, the actress began her career with a drama group called ‘Star Parade’.

In 2000, she came into the limelight after she was featured in a movie titled ‘Oshodi Oke’, from which she got her stage name.

Ronke and Anthony Gbolahan tied the knot in 2009.
