Veteran Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has thrown his hat into the political ring once again, officially declaring his candidacy for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The beloved screen star announced he will be contesting for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC)/Bwari Federal Constituency under the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC). According to his campaign team, Ike has already emerged victorious at the party primaries and is now gearing up for the main contest.
In a passionate declaration, the actor expressed his desire to bring real change and meaningful development to his constituency.
“I’m going for the Federal House of Representatives in Abuja, and we want to make a federal statement.”
He continued with determination:
“I am running for the federal house of representatives under the Bwari federal constituency in Abuja. We want to make a statement. I want to step into the real thing right now if I have made you, Nigerians, happy. Let us see how we bring dividends close to you.”
Emeka Ike did not mince words about his intentions to challenge the status quo. Signaling a strong push for better governance and systematic structures that can drive national development, he declared:
“Let us block the boys who think they have the power. If we stand they will run.”
This marks Ike’s second major attempt at elective office. In 2018, he contested for a House of Representatives seat in Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State under the Young Progressive Party (YPP). His latest move to Abuja reflects a strategic shift as he seeks to represent a federal constituency in the nation’s capital.
A video circulating online shows the actor receiving his nomination form from party officials, officially kicking off his campaign activities. Fans and observers have reacted with a mix of excitement and surprise, given his long-standing presence in the Nigerian movie industry.
Emeka Ike rose to fame in the 1990s with his role in the classic film Deadly Affair and went on to star alongside Nollywood heavyweights including Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Rita Dominic, and Ramsey Nouah. After a brief hiatus from the screen, he made a notable return in 2023 with a role in Toyin Abraham’s Malaika.
His entry into the 2027 race adds to the growing trend of Nigerian entertainers transitioning into active politics, raising questions about celebrity influence in governance, and whether stars can successfully deliver on political promises. As the political atmosphere heats up, all eyes remain on Emeka Ike to see if his star power can translate into electoral victory.
