Nigerian skitmaker and streamer Carter Efe has opened up on why he walked away from relationship content, saying the smiling videos fans loved were often built on tears, quarrels, and pressure he could no longer carry.
Speaking on a recent episode of Cocktails & Takeaways with Madame Joyce, Carter said he was among the first creators to build a following from couple videos, but the work left him unhappy. He told the host the “love, love, love” comments never matched what was happening off camera.
“I’m a smart boy. God gave me brain. I knew that relationship would take my life,” he said when asked what happened to the relationship skits.
He admitted there was a period when he could not film without his then-girlfriend.
“There was a time I could not do content if I didn’t see my woman.”
That dependence, he said, became dangerous. Followers wanted both of them in every video, even when they were fighting.
“Some people don’t even care, even when you people are quarrelling, they will say they want two of you together in that video. I have to, like, use my own brain and say no.”
Carter described the gap between the comments section and the set.
“Do you know how many times I’ll cry before we shoot? We’ll fight, fight, fight before we start content, before we even shoot, before we face camera. We will now make a post then a lot of people will now be saying love, love, love, love. Four thousand comments, five thousand comments. I was tired because behind scene is crazy. Your mental health is going.”
Creative clashes made it worse.
“The woman will be saying she does not want this, you will be saying you want this, she will be saying no, this is the right one. Issue.”
He said he refused to keep tying his career and identity to another person.
“You don’t have to attach me to anyone. Like don’t attach my glory also to someone else.”
Relationship videos may have been the plan for years, he added, but the act could not last.
“But for real, is that what we want to do for years. No, you can’t deceive people for years.”
The interview lands months after Carter’s very public split from his former partner and baby mama, Emmanuella, a breakup both sides have described in conflicting terms. In this latest conversation, he focused on the cost of performing romance for views and warned that the internet can push creators into choices they later regret.
