The bitter breakup between former Big Brother Naija stars Bella Okagbue and Segun “Sheggz” Olusemo has taken another legal turn after a pre-action notice circulating online showed Bella’s lawyers demanding repayment of alleged loans and threatening court action for breach of promise to marry.

The pre-action notice is addressed to Mr. Olusegun Olusemo and written on behalf of Miss Okagbue Esther Chidimma, also known as Bella.

According to the letter, Bella’s lawyers allege that Sheggz received money from their client between 2022 and 2025. They claim she transferred £10,166 from her United Kingdom bank accounts and later advanced ₦28,326,000 in Nigeria. The same letter says ₦8,500,000 was repaid between 2024 and 2025, leaving an alleged outstanding balance of £10,166 and ₦19,826,000. The lawyers demand full repayment within seven days.

They also accuse Sheggz of promising to marry Bella on live television, on social media, and before family and friends. The notice claims those promises were made to secure financial benefits and that the pair cohabited in the United Kingdom from 2022 until 2026. Citing the Supreme Court decision in Ezeanah v. Atta (2004), the lawyers argue that a broken promise to marry can attract damages. They say Bella has suffered “significant stigma, reputational harm, emotional distress, and psychological harm.”

The most serious portion of the letter concerns alleged domestic abuse. Bella’s lawyers claim she was locked in a bedroom, slapped, and hit on the head and face. They describe those acts as physical, emotional, and psychological abuse and say they are prepared to petition the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency.

The notice did not appear in a vacuum. Sheggz’s lawyers earlier issued a cease-and-desist letter dated August 21, 2026, accusing Bella of defamation, including claims of abuse and an alleged ₦11 million debt. They demanded that she stop public comments, delete posts, and issue a retraction. Bella’s team later described those accusations as “spurious and baseless.”

The former couple met on Big Brother Naija and dated for years after the show. Bella has said she loved genuinely and gave the relationship another chance, adding:

“A hundred promises. Not one fulfilled.”

Sheggz has said the relationship ended in January 2026 after reconciliation failed. His legal team later claimed an audit of his UK account showed about £220,000 of his personal funds was spent during the relationship.
