Nollywood actress Mo Bimpe has broken her silence after a one-minute clip from a Lagos premiere set off a storm over her marriage to Lateef Adedimeji.
The video was filmed at the September 2, 2026 premiere of A Mama Deola Wedding Story. Mo Bimpe, dressed in a white bridal-inspired look, is seen with her arm on actor Jide Awobona’s shoulder as they look at her phone and talk. Her husband sits right beside them. Some viewers claimed Lateef looked uneasy and accused her of crossing a line. Phrases like “Lateef isn’t comfortable” and talk of “boundaries” filled comment sections.
On September 6, four days after the event, Mo Bimpe answered on her Instagram story. She did not apologise. She went after the idea that a casual chat between friends is a scandal.
“A one minute clip of myself & Jide has somehow become a topic of public analysis. It’s fascinating how a normal conversation between friends has become suspicious to some of you. Not every marriage is built on fear, insecurity, and constant monitoring. Some marriages are built on trust, friendship, respect, and confidence,” she wrote.
She turned the glare back on her critics.
“The fact that so many of you found that interaction strange says more about the relationships you’re used to than it does about mine. Not every marriage is toxic, there are still healthy marriages but I understand if you can’t relate. My husband is a secure man, a brief conversation with a family friend does not threaten our marriage, or require anyone’s concern.”
Mo Bimpe and Lateef Adedimeji married in December 2021 after years of friendship. They welcomed triplet sons earlier in 2026. Jide Awobona is a long-time friend of the couple and has been seen at family events, including occasions involving their children. Supporters online pointed to that history and said the clip was being overread.
