Afrobeats star Burna Boy has finally addressed the physical altercation with DJ Tunez that took place at Obi’s House in Lagos on Monday night. In an Instagram livestream on Wednesday, the Grammy winner sat casually beside fellow artist Shallipopi in what appeared to be a living room setting and gave his detailed version of events, directly contradicting earlier claims made by the Wizkid-affiliated DJ.

Burna Boy was clear from the start that the narrative of him being backed by a group was false. He insisted the confrontation was one-on-one and downplayed its intensity.

“It wasn’t 10 people that laid hands on Tunez o, it was only me. I gave him just two slaps.”

He went further, swearing on his mother to back up his account.

“I swear on my mother and if I’m lying, let Ogun carry my mother,”

he said, before repeating that he personally stopped anyone else from getting involved.

“I gave him just two slaps and asked other people not to touch him so all this ‘10 man’ they’re talking about is a lie.”

According to Burna Boy, he had been prepared for a bigger response from DJ Tunez’s side. He claimed he waited around five hours expecting the DJ to call for reinforcements, including possibly reaching out to his boss, Wizkid.

“I thought he’d send in squad but he was just tweeting. I was there waiting for about 5 hours. He was there with about 10 people but they abandoned him when they saw me. I was the only one that touched him and I stopped others from getting involved.”

He also questioned how DJ Tunez could claim to have stood his ground against multiple people.

“If 10 men—no matter how weak—touched him, is that how he’d look like? There were no punches thrown. They’re only strong on the internet so they can control the narrative there but in real life, I control the narrative.”

The singer expressed mild regret over giving the situation too much energy.

“It’s now like I gave him too much credit because I believed he’d go and call his boss (Wizkid) and he’d do something about it, but he also merely came online to tweet, so what was the point, that means I just wasted my time.”

Shallipopi remained mostly silent throughout the livestream, occasionally sipping a drink and focusing on his phone while Burna Boy spoke. Fans quickly praised the Benin artist for staying out of the drama, with many calling his composure “wise” and “political.”

Wizkid, who had earlier defended his DJ with strong posts responded to the clip with a now-deleted tweet where he wrote,

“Explanation. I tweet u carry camera enter live Dey explain. Fucking idiot. Videos Dey na. Everybody see u still collect one ode. low vibration ass guy.”

The back-and-forth has kept the Nigerian entertainment space buzzing, with fans divided along camp lines. Videos from the original incident continue to circulate, showing DJ Tunez on the ground being stomped by multiple men.
