Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has publicly called out Nigerian airline Air Peace after what she described as a distressing experience involving stranded passengers at London’s Gatwick Airport.
In a series of strongly worded posts shared on X, the actress expressed outrage over the airline’s handling of a prolonged delay that left passengers, including elderly individuals and families, without clear communication, basic support, or access to their luggage for hours.
“Air Peace, this is unacceptable,” she wrote, setting the tone for what quickly became a viral complaint.
According to her account, passengers had been stranded since early morning, with the situation deteriorating as the day progressed. She revealed that the airline initially attributed the delay to a bird strike, assuring passengers that hotel accommodation would be provided. However, she claimed that hours later, those promises had not been fulfilled.
“Passengers (including elderly people) have been stranded since 6:30AM at London Gatwick Airport with no proper communication.”
Akindele painted a grim picture of the conditions at the airport, describing tired, hungry travelers left sitting at baggage claim without their belongings or any meaningful updates.
“After hours of delay, we were told there was a bird strike and promised a hotel. Hours later, people are still sitting at baggage claim hungry, exhausted, and without their bags.”
In a follow-up post, she intensified her criticism, highlighting the continued lack of action from the airline despite the worsening situation.
“Since 7AM at London Gatwick Airport and it’s almost 4PM — no bags, no hotel, no proper updates. Passengers are stranded. People are tired and hungry.”
The actress issued a direct demand to the airline, urging immediate intervention to ease the situation.
“Release passengers’ luggage immediately and provide the hotel you promised. Do something NOW.”
Her posts joins the many Nigerians sharing similar travel frustrations and calling for improved customer service standards among local airlines.
