Nigerian comedy king Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has issued a heartfelt apology after his highly anticipated AY Live concert in Cardiff left fans disappointed and angry on Sunday, October 25, 2026. The veteran comedian and his team arrived at the venue but could not start on time due to unresolved payment issues with the organisers. By the time they finally entered the hall, most of the audience had already walked out.
In an official statement released on Monday, AY took full responsibility for the fans’ frustration while explaining the circumstances.
“To everyone who bought tickets and came out to see us in Cardiff, I sincerely apologise for the disappointment you experienced. Your time, money and support deserve respect,” he wrote.
He added that he and his fellow comedians had travelled specifically for the show and eventually gained access to the venue.
“Unfortunately, unresolved payment commitments delayed our appearance, and by the time we arrived at the hall, most of the audience had left.”
AY stressed that ticket holders should never have been caught in the middle of a payment dispute between the organisers and the performers. He called on the organisers and UK tour management to provide clear refund information and promised that verified updates would come only through his official channels. The comedian confirmed that the remaining UK dates remain on track: Birmingham on October 30, London on October 31, and Manchester on November 1.
“For over twenty years, your support has helped build this brand. I value that trust and remain committed to honouring it,” he concluded.
Some attendees had paid as much as £350 for tickets and travelled from other parts of the United Kingdom, only to leave empty-handed. Reports indicated that police were called to the venue as tensions rose among disappointed fans. The incident quickly dominated social media, with many questioning the professionalism of the entire production.
Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia stepped forward to defend the comedian, accusing blogs and online critics of selective outrage.
“AY has been showing up to every venue on his comedy tour and spreading joy to his UK fans, but no blog posted it. But tonight, for reasons beyond his control, he could not show up in Cardiff,” she posted.
Etinosa noted that the same people who ignored successful shows were now rushing to amplify the Cardiff failure.
“So sad that good news is no news. Nobody posted his successful shows. Nobody even cared to find out what’s happening since AY isn’t a kid or an unprofessional. Everyone is waiting for bad news so they can rush, post, and have hot takes,” she wrote, ending with a prayer for grace for the comedian.
