Nollywood actor Adewale Alebiosu, the face audiences know as a babalawo, has said the incantations are only for the screen.
On the TalkToB podcast, he said he left Islam for Christianity in 1995 and now calls himself a prophet of God.
“I am not a herbalist, I am a prophet of God. Heaven opened my eyes since 1995. My parent are Alhaji and Alhaja. I used to be a Muslim before I converted to Christianity. I only act like an herbalist in movies,” he said.
He traced the turn to a white garment church where he had gone only to play the drum. What followed, he said, was a vision in his sleep.
“There was a big thunderstorm and lightning; I just saw a big cross coming down from heaven, and I quickly fell on my face to the ground. When the noise was no more, I tried raising my head up and that was when I saw the big cross dropping from heaven and it entered into my head. That cross is still inside my head today.”
After that, he said, he began attending church regularly in 1995 and started sharing visions and prophecies. He also said his father, an Alhaji, must not find out that he has set foot in a church.
The acting career did not move the way he wanted, and he said an elder told him the stall was punishment for ignoring a divine call. Only after he accepted the prophetic assignment and got deeper into church work, he said, did things begin to shift.
