Debo Adedayo, better known as Mr Macaroni, has broken down in gratitude after remembering the people who carried him through what he called one of the hardest seasons of his life. In a post shared on X on Saturday, the actor said he cried through the night and into the morning after reading messages from people he had once helped, many of whose stories he could no longer recall.
Those messages, he said, felt like a quiet correction from God. He had been staring at what he lost instead of thanking the people who refused to let him sink.
“I think this is God’s way of telling me to also be thankful!!! I have been thinking too much about what I lost instead of thanking God for seeing me through one of the hardest moments of my life.”
Giving has always come easier to him than receiving. Fans saw the viral skits, the film roles and the public generosity and assumed the money never stopped coming. That image, he admitted, made it even harder to stretch out a hand when the ground finally gave way.
“I am used to always giving and hardly ever receiving because everyone thought I had in abundance. I have also always found it difficult to ask for help.”
When he finally asked, help arrived in a way he still cannot explain. One person, whom he refused to name, kept settling his debts, not once but over and over again.
“God used one person to settle all that I owed! And this help came over and over again! I don’t think any sane person would do what he did for me without God’s intervention!”
He then named the people he could thank in public. First were the friends who stayed when they had every reason to walk away.
“To my closest people in the World (Mr Macaroni & Friends) Thank you for not neglecting me even when you had every reason to. Thank you for saving me.”
Next was Don Jazzy, whose kindness he said did not begin with fame.
“To Don Jazzy, who has been giving me since my university days up till now, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you do, not just for me but for so many others!!!”
He also thanked Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen and Pastor Bolaji.
The Don Jazzy bond is an old one. Years ago, long before Daddy Wa became a household name, the Mavin boss sent him N150,000 after he slid into his DMs as a student. That earlier gesture now sits beside a much heavier season. In 2025, Mr Macaroni had already told the public he was defrauded, lost his savings and slipped into debt running into hundreds of millions of naira.
He now says he is in a better place, learning and doing work that makes him happy. The regret he refuses to carry is the money he spent on other people.
“I don’t and will never regret anything I have ever done in my life to make the lives of others better in even the smallest way possible.”
The same day his post went up, veteran actor Peter Fatomilola was again telling interviewers how Mr Macaroni once surprised him with N1 million after a film job, plus money for fuel, his son and his grandchild.
