Fast rising singer Mavo has issued a public apology after old social media posts from 2023, including derogatory remarks about Davido, resurfaced and turned the timeline against him. The singer, who once treated celebrity culture like open season from a university student’s account, now says those shots landed on real people and that he got the judgment wrong.
The posts that came back this week included a false allegation that Davido tried to kill his newborn baby, a claim with no standing that has followed the OBO star’s family life for years whenever old gossip is recycled. Other comments from the same period targeted more artistes in the same loose, cruel register. After the pile-on, Mavo returned to X and tried to close the chapter himself.
He wrote that he was a harsh entertainment critic when he started university, until it dawned on him that superstars barely live on the app.
“I was a bad entertainment critic when I started uni until I realized superstars don’t really care about twitter. I stopped criticizing and focused solely on my music and since then it’s been bliss.”
The next lines were the ones meant to translate as an apology.
“My criticism sadly unfortunately and unintentionally hurt quite a number of people and I’m honestly sorry. I have met most of these people and they actually turn out to be amazing people. I’m sorry for my misjudgment. Let love lead.”
That last sentence is doing a lot of lifting for a man whose present career is tangled up with the same names he used to drag. Born Oseremen Marvin Ukanigbe in Ekpoma, Edo State, Mavo broke through in 2025 with Escaladizzy and Shakabulizzy. Davido later jumped on the Shakabulizzy remix. Wizkid, CKay and Ayra Starr came around the same season. The boy who once sat in the comments is now in the credits with the same people, which is why the 2023 archive feels less like campus banter and more like a debt.
Not everyone is cashing the apology. Some users said the writing was decent and that people should know when a moment has become bigger than a tweet. Others were colder. One widely shared reply accused him of saying sorry only after a fresh remark about Davido went badly and had to be deleted, while older shots at other artistes were left online.
