Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has opened up on why he walked away from church 13 years ago, insisting the decision did not kill his faith. The 66-year-old made the remarks on the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast hosted by Bae U, which aired on YouTube on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
Solade said Sunday services stopped making sense to him.
“God created me in His image. I stopped going to church 13 years ago because I was not finding it funny any longer. Though I am a child of God,” he said.
He argued that tying worship to one day of the week has no place in scripture.
“My life is not orchestrated towards a particular day. There is no Sunday in the Bible. Without God, I will not be alive.”
The actor was clear that leaving church is not the same as leaving God.
“I know God too well. If you get close to me, you will know that God lives in me.”
He also spoke about how he lives away from the pews. Solade said he keeps people at a distance even though he is widely loved.
“I do not have a friend. I do not roll with anybody, but I move with the world because God has instructed me to do that for myself.”
He added:
“I am loved by a lot of people, and I love a lot of people. But I do not have intimacy with people. It is good for me.”
On rumours that follow him, the Yoruba screen veteran shrugged.
“You will only speculate. You have heard things about me; most of them are not true. If I am not important, people will not talk about me.”
The comments have stirred fresh talk in a country where Sunday church is often treated as proof of Christian identity.
