Nollywood star Odunlade Adekola has marked his wife’s birthday with a tender look back at the day he walked up to her and asked her to be his, more than two decades ago.
In an Instagram post shared on Monday, November 2, 2026, the 49-year-old actor and filmmaker celebrated Deaconess Ruth Abosede Adekola and recounted their early days.
“I saw Madam Ruth Abosede Adekola about 22 years ago! I walked up to her and said, ‘My friend! I see what I want in you. Can you be mine?’” he wrote.
He added that “a lot of stories behind this” remain funny even now.
Adekola said he became fully engaged to her 20 years ago.
“20 years ago, I got fully engaged to my baby, the MOTHER of our KINGS. Deaconess Ruth Abosede Adekola,” he wrote, describing her as the mother of his children and his number one fan.
He closed with a simple vow:
“I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER MY NUMBER ONE FAN.”
He prayed for continued blessings on their home, added a warm Yoruba wish for her, and asked followers to help celebrate the woman he still calls his friend.
The couple have largely kept their family life private. Older interviews from Ruth herself placed their first real conversation at a night vigil of the Christ Apostolic Church in Sabo, Abeokuta, around 1995, where they already knew each other from church. She has said she was initially unsure because of his work in film, but that family and pastoral counsel eventually settled the matter. Public accounts have long listed their marriage as beginning around 2003 and noted several children, mostly boys.
