Nollywood is in mourning following the death of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo. His daughter, Kira Taiwo, broke the news during an emotional Instagram livestream on Sunday.
In the heartbreaking video, a distraught Kira wailed as she processed the loss.
“Help me call my sister! My daddy is dead! I don’t believe this! I want to go home! Tell them to buy my ticket so I can go home. I want to go and see my daddy before he gets buried!” she cried.
The announcement comes after the family had publicly appealed for medical support in recent days. Ogogo had been battling stage-four cancer, a diagnosis that followed what the family initially believed was an ulcer.

Born on 31 October 1959 in Ilaro, Ogun State, Taiwo Hassan rose from working as an automobile mechanic to become one of the most recognisable faces in Yoruba cinema. He began his acting career in the early 1980s and went on to appear in numerous films, including Agbelebu, Danfo Driver, Ekun-Ayo, Omo Ghetto, Aníkúlápó (where he played Alaafin Ademuyiwa), and Bank Alert. He was also a producer, director and screenwriter who earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
Ogogo’s contributions spanned more than four decades, leaving an indelible mark on Nollywood through memorable performances that entertained generations of fans.
Tributes have already begun pouring in from colleagues and admirers as the industry reflects on the life and legacy of the late star. The family has yet to release any further details.
