Popular Nigerian TikTok streamer Peller has hit back hard at those criticising him for getting married at a young age, declaring that the common parental advice to wait until one is older is largely driven by poverty rather than pure wisdom.
Speaking during a recent TikTok live session, the content creator, whose real name is Habeeb Hamzat, addressed the wave of comments questioning his decision to settle down early with fellow creator Jarvis.
“Let me tell all of you saying, ‘he’s too young to get married.’ The reason your parents lie to you to get to a certain age before you get married is poverty. I swear to Almighty God,” Peller stated firmly.
He explained that parents often push their children to reach a certain age because they expect them to have started earning and become financially stable by then.
“They keep telling you to get to a certain age because they know you’d have started making money.”
The newlywed further challenged critics who focus solely on age while ignoring other important factors.
“You all keep saying, how old are we? Are you counting the age or net worth or how much I love her?”
Peller urged people who truly love someone to express those feelings without letting age dictate their choices.
“If you love someone, show it to them.”
He also referenced older generations, claiming that many parents who married in their 30s and 40s did so simply because they lacked the financial means to marry earlier.
“Our parents that got married in their 30s and 40s, it’s because they didn’t have money then. That’s why. It’s poverty,” he added.
Peller, born in 2005 in Ikorodu, Lagos, rose to fame through high-energy TikTok livestreams and comedy content. He and Jarvis completed their traditional rites, civil wedding in late July 2026, traditional wedding on August 1, 2026, and white wedding on August 8th, in Lagos, drawing significant attention and mixed reactions over their young ages.

His comments have reignited debates about the right age for marriage in Nigeria, with some supporting his view that financial readiness and genuine love matter more than chronological age, while others insist emotional maturity and life experience should take priority.
