Nigerian content creator and actress Juliet Cassie, also known as Jullie Cassie or Ndunwa Juliet, has sparked heated debate with a blunt video addressing why many married women end up begging or borrowing money.
In a video she posted, the popular realist known for her straight-talk content on relationships argued that marriage and motherhood often stall women’s financial progress, leaving them vulnerable when husbands fail to step up.
“Nobody borrows money more than married women. And I’m not even saying this from a place of insult, I’m saying it from a place of concern. This is for the women who could take care of themselves financially when they were alone, but start running into problems when they get married.”
Cassie explained that becoming a wife and mother frequently disrupts a woman’s ability to earn and grow her income.
“Dear men, being a wife and motherhood has a way of stagnating a woman’s earnings. It has a way of messing with her finances. Stand up for your woman.”
She urged husbands to prioritise their wives instead of external distractions.
“It’s not the time to start spending on side chicks. Whatever you can do to make her life easier, so it. Get her kitchen equipment that make life easier for her. It’s not the time to start demanding for hand-pounded pounded yam. Don’t sleep with her house help if she ever gets one.”
The influencer linked this reality to the rising number of women choosing careers over marriage.
“Women realizing that getting married puts them in a financially bad place is one of the reasons a lot of some will keep choosing their careers over marriage. You people don’t make marriage appealing for these women. Don’t blame them for not getting married when they see no benefit to it.”
She questioned the prevalence of married women seeking financial help:
“Why should there be so many married women begging? Do you now know this exposes them and their families to a lot of things? You as a man would still rather go outside with the little that you have to give strange women. It’s financial abuse.”
