The Nigerian movie industry is in mourning following the death of Yoruba Nollywood actress and producer Temitope Osoba, popularly known as Tope Osoba.

News of her passing broke on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, after fellow actor Alesh Sanni announced it in an emotional Instagram post.

“Couldn’t sleep since last night, it’s well. Rest in peace my dearest sister, Temitope Osoba. We had amazing time and good memories together, till we meet again. I really don’t know what to say mehn, gosh,” Sanni wrote.

The cause of her death has not been officially disclosed. Osoba was 40 years old.

She had previously shared her courageous battle with breast cancer. In late 2024, at age 38, she discovered a lump during a self-examination. An initial doctor dismissed it as related to childbearing age, but further tests confirmed the diagnosis. She underwent surgeries, with colleagues including Foluke Daramola helping to raise funds for treatment estimated at around N12 million. Follow-up scans showed the cancer had not spread, sparing her chemotherapy. She received radiation and was later declared cancer-free.

Osoba made an inspiring return to acting in 2025. In December that year, she celebrated her 40th birthday as a survivor, posting reflective messages about the journey. She described herself as stronger, softer, wiser and deeply grateful, calling the milestone a victory and a living testimony after walking through fear, pain and uncertainty.

Known for her roles in Yoruba-language films such as Ile Owo, Omo Iya Kan, Gucci Girls, Oogun Mi and Ifedolapo, Osoba built a dedicated following through consistent work as both an actress and producer. Fans and colleagues have described her as committed and resilient.

Tributes have begun pouring in across social media as the industry processes the loss of another talent. Many remembered her openness about her health struggles and her determination to return to the screen.

Further details from her family are still being awaited. The entertainment community continues to express shock and sorrow at the news.
