Former Big Brother Naija Season 4 housemate Seyi Awolowo has delivered strong advice to the current set of housemates and his colleagues, stressing that originality and a clear post-show plan are the real keys to lasting success.
The actor and businessman, speaking in recent interview told Season 11 contestants that authenticity beats chasing trends if they want to remain relevant after the cameras stop rolling.
“Be true to yourself. Stand for the right cause. Do the right thing at the right time,” Awolowo said.
He added that genuine people stay relevant without forcing it.
“I think if you’re genuine about who you are, you would forever stay relevant. It’s if you dillydally, I’m this today, that tomorrow because I need to stay in the trend, I need to be viral, then you might have a problem at a point in time.”
He explained that relevance should come naturally for those meant to have it, and that adapting when necessary is fine as long as the core self remains intact.
“But if you are who you are supposed to be through and through, and you know how to modify who you are when you need to- not that you change totally- you know how to adapt to this, adapt to that, yeah, your relevance should stick.”
Awolowo also highlighted that the BBNaija platform offers value far beyond entertainment. Many former housemates have used the visibility to enter completely different industries. He pointed to examples such as Miracle, who became a pilot after winning and used his prize money for overseas schooling, and others who quietly built sustainable lives away from the spotlight.
“The entertaining thing is the low-hanging fruit when you come out of the house, right? It’s just right there. So, I mean, why not grab the fruit? You need to make money now. Fame with no cash is rubbish,” he stated.
According to him, the real work begins after the show. Contestants must sit down, assess their strengths and weaknesses, and map out a deliberate path.
“So it’s just a matter of you as the individual, after the house, you sit down and plan your life, like, okay, these are my strong suits, these are my weaknesses, where can I plug this in? Where can I plug that out? How can you now go from here on? But if you don’t have a proper plan when you are out of the house, you just fall by the wayside. You listen to everybody, and you stand for nothing.”
