Manchester City star and Belgium winger Jeremy Doku has joyfully rejoined the Belgian national team camp in Seattle after temporarily leaving to witness the birth of his first child, a son named Praise.
The 24-year-old forward flew to London to support his wife during the delivery and has now returned to duty as Belgium prepares for a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup Group G match against New Zealand.
The Belgian Football Federation released a viral video celebrating Doku’s return, confirming he arrived back in the United States on Wednesday after spending precious time with his growing family.
Team doctor Brahim Hacene confirmed that the trip went smoothly:
“Everything went perfectly, and the mother, father and baby are all doing wonderfully.”
Doku had earlier missed Belgium’s goalless draw against Iran on Sunday while recovering from a respiratory illness. Medical clearance allowed him to travel for the birth without health complications, with staff accompanying him throughout the journey.
His brief absence, however, sparked controversy in France after a television commentator criticised his decision to leave the tournament for his child’s birth. The remarks drew widespread backlash, forcing sports daily L’Equipe to issue an apology.

Doku’s return boosts Belgium’s attacking options significantly. The Red Devils have drawn their first two Group G matches and desperately need a victory against New Zealand on Saturday to keep their knockout stage hopes alive.
The young winger’s commitment to both family and country has earned praise from fans and teammates.
