Veteran Nollywood actor and politician Emeka Ike has voiced deep frustration over the state of Nigerian politics, declaring that the system now excludes ordinary, capable citizens who lack massive financial resources.

In a candid exclusive interview with Saturday Beats, the actor-turned-politician opened up about the harsh realities he has encountered since throwing his hat into the ring for the 2027 elections.

“One of the biggest lessons is that there is very little room for ordinary Nigerians in politics. If you do not have substantial financial resources, it becomes almost impossible to compete, regardless of how intelligent, resourceful or impactful you are.”

Emeka Ike, who is contesting for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency seat in Abuja under the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), stressed that politics has been hijacked by moneybags, many of whom acquired their wealth through questionable means.

“Nigerians need to stop supporting political moneybags simply because they are wealthy. Many capable Nigerians are effectively being pushed away from politics, and that is something we must resist.”

Reflecting on his personal motivation for entering politics, the veteran actor revealed a deep sense of urgency driven by generational disappointment.

“Our fathers waited for change in Nigeria. My mother died waiting for that change. I am approaching 60, and it feels as though my children may face the same consequences. I asked myself, ‘Why not join and make some noise?’”

The interview also touched on a recent controversy involving Lere Olayinka, media aide to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Emeka Ike has initiated legal action after his personal details from the INEC portal were allegedly exposed without authorization.

Despite admitting he feels unsafe, the actor insisted the incident has only strengthened his resolve.

“It strengthened my decision to fight the anomaly… I am not a weak man. If anyone comes to my house with bad intentions, they should be prepared for the consequences.”

Emeka Ike urged Nigerians to collect their Permanent Voter Cards and participate actively in the 2027 elections. He called on civil society organisations to sensitise citizens and monitor the process closely, warning that low voter turnout only empowers those manipulating the system.
