Comedian and content creator Carter Efe has opened up about his decision to step away from the music industry, describing it as a tough space that demands strong mental fortitude rather than just talent.
In a recent interview that has since gone viral, Carter Efe shared his early expectations and the rude awakening he received after releasing his single. He admitted entering the industry with high hopes of quick success.
“The Music Industry is a devilish industry. You have to be of strong mind to thrive there. You can’t be nonchalant about it at all.”
Carter revealed his initial naivety about the business side of music.
“When I dropped, I thought it was all going to be well and I’d start performing—I didn’t know it came with a lot of its own problems.”
The rude awakening came when he received formal communication about his earnings.
“It was not until I got a letter stating I was only going to get 10% from my own single that I understood.”
The comedian-turned-singer-turned-live streamer best known for hits like “Machala” expressed deep frustration over the financial realities and other undisclosed challenges that pushed him out of active music pursuits. His comments have reignited discussions about unfair deals, streaming royalties, and the hidden struggles many artists face in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
His experience serves as a cautionary tale for upcoming artists dreaming of easy stardom in the Afrobeats scene.
