Afrobeats superstar Davido has opened up about his wealthy upbringing in a fresh interview that is now making rounds online. The singer made it clear that growing up surrounded by billions, designer bags, and endless comfort never distracted him from the one thing he truly wanted: music.
Davido described his childhood home as nothing short of extravagant.
“I grew up in a 20-bedroom, 16 to 20-bedroom house.”
He added that luxury cars, annual vacations, and high-end fashion were everyday realities.
“My mom used to have all the Birkins, all the Chanel bags. I’ve seen all that since I was a kid.”
Yet none of it pulled him away from his passion.
“I just became very obsessed with music, crazy about it. I wasn’t thinking about anything else. Like, I don’t care how many billions my dad had… but I just wanted to do music. That’s what God called me for.”
The singer went even further, revealing a bold move he made as a young man determined to follow his calling. He left home for almost a year with no money and stayed with a friend in a modest one-bedroom apartment. His friend could not believe it.
“My guy’s asking me like, ‘Why are you staying here? Like, why are you here suffering with us? I’ll switch with you right now!’”
Davido stood firm.
“I was like, bro, I want to do music, I want to do music, this is what I want to do.”
The clip has already sparked reactions from fans who admire Davido’s drive despite his background. Many see it as proof that real passion can outweigh privilege, while others note how the story humanises the global star.
Davido’s words serve as a reminder that success in the creative space often comes from deep personal conviction rather than external circumstances.
