Popular singer, Kcee has recounted some of the hurdles he had to cross on the road to stardom. The talented singer said he started paying his family’s house rent as a budding artiste. The ‘Pull over’ crooner made this known as a guest on ‘It is what is’ podcast hosted by Tim Godfrey.

Recounting his early days as an artiste, he said: ”I started with football. My first love was football. I played for Julius Berger professionally and I was doing music by the side. It was when I won Star Quest that I dumped football because I had two careers. My father wasn’t supportive when I started doing music. Not that he doesn’t like music, he just felt then that most of the musicians are rascals with dreadlocks, smoke weed etc. So nobody wants his or her kid to go do that.

Sometimes when I go for shows those days I will be locked out of the house. My mom will beg him to allow me come in.My father started appreciating it when I went for my first show. Then Gold Circle condom were taking us around campuses. I was being paid twenty thousand weekly with people like 2face.We were just young boys composing songs, going on those tours with Julius Agwu and Basketmouth. Those were the early days of their career also.”

On how he started paying the house rent, the former member of the defunct group, KCPresh said: ”So I came back and I gave my father that money. He sat up and asked where I got the money from. I would show him pictures of me on stage. That was when he started supporting. At that age, I started paying our house rent. Our house rent then was fifty thousand, it has four bedroom. We were eight. I would gather the money for house rent in like one month. So everyone started respecting me”.
