A certain Pastor, Henry Sanni, on Friday demanded N250m from the Nigeria Police for the alleged extrajudicial killing of his brother.

Sanni, made the claim in a petition before the independent Investigative Panel on allegations of human rights violations by the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad and other units of the Nigeria Police Force.

The bereaved told the panel that his younger brother, Femi, was killed by the police unit in Abuja in 2007. The petitioner, who is a Catholic priest of the Ilorin Diocese, accused the police of wrongly tagging his brother an armed robber.

He said, ”My late brother was a businessman who owned two block industries, in Abuja and Ilorin, Kwara State. I am praying the panel to order the payment of N250m in compensation in our favour, considering the ordeal my brother suffered in the hands of the police.

He added that when he went to the FCT Police Command at Garki, Abuja, he met one DSP Uzoma Nwoha who threatened to shoot him

Sanni said, “Nwoha threatened to shoot me if I asked him about the whereabouts of my brother. He told me to go, and that the best he could do in the case of my brother, was to pray for him because he was already in the morgue. I was shocked when I finally got to the morgue in Abuja and found the mutilated corpse of my brother”.

However, Mr Garba Tetengi SAN, who represented the Chairman of the panel, Justice Suleiman Galadima (retd.), adjourned the matter to March 9, 2022
