Veteran media personality and longtime AMVCA host IK Osakioduwa has finally broken his silence on why he did not anchor the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), marking the first time he has missed the role since the awards launched in 2013.

Speaking on The Morayo Show, IK clarified that his absence was not caused by any fallout with Africa Magic but stemmed from deeply held personal principles and convictions.

“I wasn’t destined to host this year. I strongly believe in where God has sent you to be and at the time they sent you to be.”

The popular broadcaster emphasised that his relationship with Africa Magic remains excellent, describing the platform as his first love in television.

“Africa Magic will always be my first love when it comes to media. At least with TV, we are in love with each other, they love me and I love them. So, there was no problem there.”

He revealed the main reason for stepping aside was his refusal to be associated with alcohol or tobacco brands, which were among the sponsors for the 2026 edition.

“I have a few principles that didn’t agree with that particular edition. I don’t endorse alcoholic brands or tobacco brands. So I wouldn’t have been able to serve properly in that particular edition. I won’t have effectively delivered what they needed.”

IK chose to honour his personal boundaries rather than compromise, believing he would not have been able to deliver his best performance under those circumstances.

The 2026 AMVCA was eventually hosted by Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha, bringing a fresh dynamic to the prestigious awards show.
