Afrobeat star Seun Kuti has finally addressed the viral reports that he angrily stormed out of the traditional wedding of popular TikTok creators Peller and Jarvis.
The son of legendary musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was among the high-profile guests at the star-studded Lagos ceremony held over the weekend. A video quickly circulated online showing him navigating through the decorated hall and heading for the exit, with some reports claiming he left in anger after a master of ceremonies allegedly compared Wizkid to his late father.
Seun has now set the record straight. In a video shared alongside Fuji singer Malaika, he explained that his early departure had nothing to do with any confrontation or offence.
“I left the wedding to go to the Shrine, and these bloggers twisted things, saying I was angry. Maybe I should have danced out of the ceremony when I had somewhere to go,” he said.
The New Afrika Shrine, the iconic Lagos venue tied to his father’s legacy, was the reason for his exit. Seun made it clear that he simply had prior commitments there and could not stay throughout the night.
The wedding of Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, and Amadou Elizabeth Aminata, known as Jarvis, drew a large crowd of celebrities, influencers, Nollywood stars and musicians. The couple had earlier completed traditional rites in Benin City and a civil ceremony before the main Lagos celebration.
While Seun’s clarification aims to end the speculation, comedian and one of the event’s MCs, Edo Pikin, had also spoken out. He denied that any of the hosts compared Wizkid to Fela, describing the circulating claims as fabricated for engagement. Edo Pikin suggested the mention of “Baba Fela” related to a light exchange with the DJ about music volume and that Seun may not have heard the full context.
