Nollywood actress Biola Adekunle has sparked emotional conversations after opening up about the prevalence of paedophilia, her personal fertility battles, and the heavy responsibilities of motherhood in a deeply revealing interview on the Talk To B podcast.
Biola, known for her roles in Yoruba films, addressed the sensitive topic of child sexual abuse, noting that social media has given victims a platform to speak out.
“It’s because we’re in the era of social media. Things like paedophilia have been happening for a long time. It’s because there’s a place to table the issues now. We now live in a more civilized world where people can now speak out. We didn’t use to even dare to speak out.”
The actress also shared her own painful journey to motherhood, revealing she waited nearly six years to conceive and faced emotional turmoil during that period.
“I waited for almost 6 years to conceive and my husband stood by me. I used to cry when I heard that someone has put to bed. By the time we were blessed, we already gave up. My husband and I already fought. I already made up my mind to move out.”
She admitted struggling with attitudes that once led her to boarding school but stressed the importance of protecting children and being mindful of what they witness.
“If you’re poor and can’t take care of your children, you’ll be at fault because those children are innocent. We should be careful of the things we do in their presence.”
Biola praised responsible fathers while noting that many men focus primarily on provision. She also reflected on her own stubborn nature as a child and the value of patience in marriage and parenting.
Her honest revelations have resonated with many women who have faced similar fertility challenges and societal pressures, while reigniting discussions on child protection, mental health in marriages, and the role of social media in holding society accountable.
