Popular Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi Ugboma has stirred massive reactions after declaring that he celebrates certain divorces, arguing that ending a toxic marriage allows people to finally breathe and find peace.

Speaking on The Morayo Show, Bovi shared his unfiltered views on marriage and divorce, emphasizing that no one should remain in a union where they are suffering.

“I celebrate when people get divorced because I feel it means one or two people were not breathing well inside that space. I will not suffer anybody, neither will I want anybody to suffer me.”

The comedian, who has been married for 17 years after tying the knot at age 29, admitted that his own marriage has not been easy, revealing he has been the sole provider throughout.

“That’s not to say my marriage has been easy for 17 years. It has not. That’s a long time. I got married at 29 and have been the sole provider.”

His comments have ignited heated debates online, with many accusing him of promoting the breakdown of marriages while others praised him for speaking realistically about the need to exit unhealthy relationships. Critics argue that divorce deeply affects children, while supporters say staying miserable helps no one.

Bovi’s remarks come at a time when several high-profile celebrity marriages and divorces dominate Nigerian entertainment news, making his position particularly controversial.
