Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has sparked massive online debate with her unfiltered take on relationships, money, and the so-called “gold digger” label.
The 59-year-old star declared that it is a man’s responsibility to spend on his woman without being asked, insisting that any man who cannot afford a relationship should stay single.
“She shouldn’t even need to ask. It is your responsibility as a man to know that your woman needs to wear good clothes, look good — even if it’s looking good for you as a man. She should be your pride, your everything. You should want to spend on her,” she stated.
Bukky did not hold back when addressing men who accuse women of being gold diggers.
“I hate when men call women gold diggers. What do you expect her to dig? Shit? No, I won’t advice any woman to dig anything less than gold. Don’t date if you cannot afford it.”
She advised men to date according to their financial level.
“You can date according to your level. I remember when I was growing up, we women would not date our age mates because what can you offer? Except when as a man, you know you’re doing better financially if you guys are age mates.”
The actress warned against dating women whose standards are far above a man’s means.
“I’m not saying ask for a 2 million naira hair. As a man, if you’re dating somebody that her level is higher than yours, then you’re in trouble. That’s why I said cut your clothes accordingly to your materials. Date a woman that’s on your level. There’s a level for everybody.”
Her comments have divided social media. Some users, especially women, praised her for speaking hard truths about responsibility in relationships, while others, mostly men, accused her of promoting materialism.
