My Children Got Death Threats – Omotola On EndSARS

Veteran Nollywood actress and outspoken activist Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has shared an account of how the EndSARS protests placed her children in danger.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Rubbin’ Minds on Sunday, the award-winning actress revealed that while she had received death threats in the past, nothing compared to what happened during the nationwide protests.

“I am used to death threats; I have received them many times,” Omotola said. “But I have never seen anything like what happened during EndSARS. It was intense. My kids started getting death threats.”

According to her, that moment forced a major shift in how she viewed activism, as the danger was no longer directed at her alone.

“That was when it became real, and when I realized this was no longer just about me,” she explained.

The mother of four disclosed that unknown individuals began showing up around her home and workplace, escalating fears for her family’s safety.

“When people started coming to my home and workplace looking for me, I knew it was time to think beyond myself. I had to protect others, especially my children,” she said.

Omotola added that the experience pushed her away from street protests toward more strategic advocacy, noting that protecting her children became her top priority.

“I can’t control where they go. I can’t protect them as much. I don’t care for my life, but I do care for them,” she stated.

Her revelation has sparked renewed conversations online about the personal risks faced by public figures who lend their voices to social movements in Nigeria.
