Gospel singer Segun Obe stirs controversy with criticism of Ebuka Songs’ new single

Segun Obe, a gospel singer and voice coach, has criticised his colleague Ebuka Songs’ latest single, New Generation, claiming that it lacks spirituality.

The song, released in January 2024, features fellow gospel singer Moses Bliss and has received mixed reactions from members of the Christian community.

Many people believe that the song “Fine Boys Wey Love Jesus” is not spiritual enough and contains secular elements.

Speaking in an Instagram post on Friday, Segun Obe reposted a statement that read: “How we threw away lamb, slain, cross, spirit, eternal, saints from our songs and brought in fine boys and fine girls though.”

The statement sparked reactions as many stormed the comment section of the post to air their opinions.

“This is not the only thing we should address biko. What about our praise leaders that their backup hype men and women will be shouting wahala wahala during praise session. Emi mimo pepper them and co plus Jesus po pkpa,” Enibokun Tolulope wrote.

“I believe there is a valid context to the use of fine boys and fine girls that was used in the song. It’s a belief that cool people don’t follow Christ. I also feel if the song was sang by an urban Christian artiste or afro gospel artiste, the response won’t be like this,” Akin Alabi added.

“How you coach people to do secular songs but come to bash a gospel singer winning souls is demonic,” Sheddy of the Good Life commented.

“To be honest Sir, I feel your post is hypocritical,” Bright Bass wrote.
