Mr Ibu recovering in ICU after five surgeries

Ailing actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, is currently recovering in an intensive care unit (ICU) after undergoing five successful surgeries.

The actor’s daughter Jazmine Okafor disclosed in a statement via Instagram on Tuesday, while giving an update on the actor’s health condition.

Mr Ibu’s family expressed gratitude to God and the general public for their support and encouragement.

“We want to thank God and most especially the General public for their support, encouragement, and prayers during this trying period for our dad.

“We called on Good Nigerians and we are very grateful for the response in every aspect most especially the donations, it came in very timely and very helpful.

“So far Daddy has gone through 5 successful surgeries, and he is still recovering in the ICU. Daddy is immensely grateful and we are thankful to the general public during this phase of our lives. We appreciate all the donations made to this 1685687982. John I Okafor Access bank. Thank you account, and as soon as Daddy is better he will personally acknowledge all donations!

“We are still counting on all your prayers and unwavering support as we pray he gets stabilized quickly to enable us to fly him abroad for further advanced treatment.. The John Okafor family is grateful to all Nigerians,” the statement read.

The movie star celebrated his 63rd birthday in an undisclosed hospital in Lagos on Tuesday, October 17.

He revealed in a video posted on Instagram on Wednesday that he needed financial support so his leg would not be amputated.

On October 21, it was reported that the Bukola Saraki Foundation had paid the medical bills of ailing actor. This happened after Ibu’s wife Stella Maris put up a video, claiming that the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) lied about helping her husband, the statement was immediately debunked by the guild’s director of communications Kate Henshaw who insisted that the guild has been supporting Mr Ibu.
