Nollywood star Lateef Adedimeji has passionately called out the Nigerian government over the continued insecurity crisis, particularly the abduction of innocent schoolchildren and their teachers, questioning how leaders can focus on electioneeering while citizens suffer.

The actor took to his X handle to express deep pain and frustration over the worsening situation where classrooms are no longer safe spaces for vulnerable children.

“This is beyond the rhythm of the song and the melody behind the lyrics; it is about our pain, our unwanted reality. Who would have thought that classrooms would no longer be safe? Who would have thought that vulnerable children would be turned to pawns in the hands of the people we elected? Election is around the corner, and they’re making promises again. Innocent children are in the loins of daredevils, yet it’s business as usual for them… who do we call?”

In a direct plea to those in power, the father of triplets begged:

“Dear people in government, pick up the call. You know what to do, we’re begging you. Do it. Bring back the kids and their teachers… Please.”

The actor’s strong statement comes amid heightened national grief following recent abductions and killings, including the slaughter of a teacher whose video circulated widely online. Many celebrities have voiced similar concerns, even turning Children’s Day celebrations into moments of collective mourning.

Lateef Adedimeji’s call adds to the growing pressure on the government to prioritize the safe return of abducted victims and restore security, especially in the Southwest region that was once considered relatively safer.

His emotional plea has resonated with many Nigerians who feel abandoned by their leaders while election season approaches.
