Nollywood actor Kunle Afod has raised urgent concerns after stumbling upon a serious road accident on the Ibadan–Shagamu Expressway in Ogun State, where victims lay helpless for about 20 minutes with no ambulance or emergency responders in sight.
In a video he shared on his Instagram page on Friday, November 6, 2026, Afod described the chaotic scene at Shapade and made a direct appeal for help.
“It’s a terrible accident we came across on the way along the Ibadan–Shagamu Expressway right now, and it’s so sad that for about 20 minutes that we’ve been here there has been no ambulance, no emergency services to come and help them,” he said while showing the wreckage and people on the ground.
Afod continued filming as he tried to reach emergency services without success.
“Nobody, we’ve been trying to call emergency workers to come and help them. See people lying down helplessly. You can see them, you can see the car behind me, the bus behind me now,” he explained.
He expressed frustration at the lack of response from local authorities.
“Nobody, nobody in Ogun State to come and rescue them.”
The actor questioned why other motorists were not stopping either.
“Until now we’ve been trying to call, we’ve been trying to make emergency calls. Nobody, nobody is trying to help them at all. Look at them, look at the bus, look at people lying down. Nobody is even stopping to carry them, nobody at all. What is happening in this state right now? What is happening?” he asked.
Afod ended the video with a strong public plea.
“We are stuck, this is right now and this accident is terrible, it is terrible. Ogun State, no ambulance to come and rescue people. People should please come to their aid right now, right now.”
In the caption accompanying the post, he wrote:
“We urgently need the RESCUE TEAM to come to the aid of accident victims at Shapade, along the Ibadan–Shagamu Expressway, Ogun State. Lives may be at risk. Every second counts!”
He tagged the Ogun State Government, the Federal Road Safety Corps and other emergency agencies while warning viewers that some images could be disturbing.
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) later confirmed a serious single-vehicle road traffic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway through its Saapade Unit Command. In an official alert signed by Odutola Babatunde, the agency stated that traffic flow had not been affected and that its operatives were monitoring the situation. Further details would be released as they became available.
Some online posts claimed that Ogun State Ambulance Service, TRACE and FRSC arrived at the scene around 12:27 p.m., before Afod’s Instagram upload, and that surviving victims were receiving medical attention.
Afod’s video quickly circulated across social media, sparking conversations about emergency response times in Nigeria. The actor, known for speaking out on social issues, used his platform to highlight what he saw as a critical gap in immediate rescue services.
