Philanthropist and content creator King Mitchy has stirred fresh controversy by alleging that Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy is yet to reimburse VeryDarkMan (VDM) the ₦250 million used to build schools in Rivers State. The claim emerged during a recent streaming session with former Big Brother Naija housemate Phyna, where Mitchy suggested VDM fronted the funds from his own NGO expecting repayment that never came.

According to King Mitchy, the arrangement left VDM carrying the financial burden after Burna Boy’s earlier promise of support for the activist’s community projects.

“Burna boy has not paid verydarkman the 250 million he used in building schools. He withdrew money from his NGO to build the schools thinking burna boy will pay him back but he Didn’t,” she stated during the live conversation.

The allegation centres on the widely publicised secondary school and clinic project in Odiokwu, Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State, Burna Boy’s hometown. The initiative, reported to have cost more than ₦250 million, was supervised by VDM and constructed by Fego Works Limited. It was commissioned around mid-October 2026 and includes classroom blocks, a clinic, administrative facilities, fencing, and other amenities. VDM had previously shared detailed breakdowns of spending, including ₦50 million spent on murals featuring Burna Boy, local children, and project team members, while defending the overall cost against public scrutiny.

The school project itself drew mixed reactions when images circulated online, with some Nigerians questioning whether the finished structures matched the reported investment figure. VDM maintained that the money was well spent and argued that a similar government-handled project would have required far higher funding. Burna Boy has been publicly credited as the sole funder of the development.

King Mitchy’s comments have reignited online discussion, particularly given her past public clashes with VDM. As of the latest reports, neither VDM nor Burna Boy has issued a direct public response to the specific claim that NGO funds were used as a temporary advance awaiting reimbursement.
