Nollywood actress and filmmaker Ruth Kadiri has raised a fresh alarm over fake and contaminated products in Nigerian markets, urging the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control to step in before more lives are damaged.

In a video posted on her Instagram page, Kadiri spoke directly to viewers with what she described as a heavy heart.

“Dear Nigerians, I’m speaking to you today with a heavy heart and deep concern about the circulation of fake products in our country,” she said.

She listed food, drinks, medicine, cosmetics, and household goods that shoppers buy every day on the belief that they are safe, then warned that some of those items are poorly produced, contaminated, harmful, and mostly fake.

She framed the problem as more than a commercial dispute.

“This is not just a business problem; it’s a threat to human life. Imagine little children battling kidney failure,” she said.

The actress tied her warning to a personal scare. She bought garlic, blended it, and stepped downstairs to collect something else. When she returned, the colour of the garlic had changed. That moment, she said, left her uneasy about what else might be sitting in ordinary kitchens.

Kadiri also spoke about the fear that now follows her to the shop.

“A whole lot of other people with their experiences, I’m literally afraid of buying already packed drinks for my kids because I am scared of what the outcome of that drink will be,” she said.

She closed the clip with a direct appeal to the regulator.

“NAFDAC, please pay attention to the lives of Nigerians. Lots and lots of people are sick and are not getting better.”

Her video landed amid wider public complaints about counterfeit goods.
