Former BBNaija housemate Sheggz has staked ₦10 million on Nkechi Blessing to beat Phyna in their celebrity boxing bout tonight, just hours after Phyna spoke openly about turning the sport into a professional path.

Sheggz’s Instagram story show a Bet9ja slip under the handle sheggzolusemo. The slip lists a ₦10 million single bet on the Phyna versus Nkechi Blessing matchup scheduled for 10 pm on October 1, with a potential return of ₦21.1 million. A message on the same story tags Nkechi Blessing’s account and reads “let’s go,” accompanied by heart emojis.

The fight itself forms part of Balmoral Group Promotions’ Chaos in the Ring card at the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos. Organisers have said the bout will air on DAZN and SuperSport. It caps weeks of public friction between the Nollywood actress and the 2022 Big Brother Naija winner.

In a recent BBC interview clip that spread online, Nkechi Blessing framed the contest as a direct response to perceived disrespect.

“I just need to thrash out the disrespect without thinking too much. Only action,” she said.

She continued, describing what the fight meant for her:

“It’s going to be interesting and fun for me because I’m trying something extremely new that I haven’t tried before, but I’ve been training and I think I’m more than ready for this one. Always stand up for yourself in the face of disrespect.”

Phyna, speaking in the same interview, described a shift in her own outlook on the sport.

“I’ve actually fallen in love with boxing and I’m looking to go pro. It’s one of the things I want to achieve with this,” she said.

She added that she has cut out foods she once enjoyed and now wakes earlier while preparing.

“This fight will make women see and love the sport because a lot of women don’t pay attention to the sport and with me here, more people will fall in love with it.”

Their rivalry moved from social media comments in mid-September into physical confrontations, including a clash at Morayo Brown’s studio and heated exchanges at a pre-fight press conference where eggs and a water bottle were thrown. Sheggz’s wager adds a fresh layer of outside interest on the day of the fight, with fans already debating whether the stake reflects genuine confidence or simply more drama around two women who have spent the past fortnight trading blows in public.
