Nollywood actor Gideon Okeke has declared that he stays away from any movie whose total budget sits under ₦100 million. Speaking on a podcast, the Tinsel star said the projects that made his name usually start from ₦300 million and above, which is why audiences mostly catch him in cinemas and on Netflix.
“I never do any film where the budget is less than 100 million,” Okeke stated.
He pressed the point further:
“Have you taken your 100 million Naira budget to go and make a YouTube film? Maybe I’ll follow you.”
He made clear the stance is not only about his personal fee.
“No, it’s not about paying well. There’s nothing I’ve done where the budget is less than 100 million,” he added.
Looking back at his body of work, Okeke linked the big numbers to the platforms that carry his films.
“All the films you know me for, their budgets are from 300 million upwards. That’s why you see me in cinemas, that’s why you see me on Netflix, yeah.”
The claim lands in an industry where budgets still stretch from a few million naira for quick digital releases to hundreds of millions for cinema and streaming titles. Okeke, who first gained national attention on the pioneer season of Big Brother Nigeria and later became a familiar face as Phillip Ade Williams on Tinsel, has also appeared in films such as 93 Days and Tòkunbò.
His comments draw a sharp line. Producers with leaner purses now know where they stand. Fans who mostly see him on the big screen or Netflix finally have his explanation in plain words.
