Nollywood actress and ROK Studios boss Mary Remmy Njoku has stirred a fresh marriage debate after arguing that many women celebrate their husbands’ wins, while some men shrink when their wives start earning more.
In a recent post, the filmmaker said most women are genuinely happy when their partner succeeds and even pray for it.
“They want their husbands to win because they see his success as a win for the family,” she wrote.
Then she flipped the table.
“But a lot of men struggle when the tables are turned. When the woman starts earning significantly more, some men begin to feel emasculated, inadequate, or disrespected. Even when she has done absolutely nothing to make them feel that way.”
According to Njoku, that insecurity soon poisons ordinary arguments.
“Suddenly, every little disagreement becomes, ‘It’s because you have money more than me.’ And that’s the real issue.”
She said the disrespect often does not start with the woman.
“Sometimes the disrespect isn’t coming from the woman. It’s coming from the man’s own insecurity about what her success means about him.”
Her conclusion was blunt.
“A woman’s success should not make a man feel smaller. And a man who truly loves his woman should be able to celebrate her success without turning it into a competition. But their Ego would not allow.”
The message fits a pattern. Njoku, who is married to entrepreneur Jason Njoku and is a mother of three, has repeatedly spoken about money, sacrifice, and gender roles in marriage. She has previously told men to respect housewives, align their taste in women with their pockets, and stop pretending African women do not carry family pressure.
