Popular Nigerian dancer and hypeman Poco Lee is currently on remand in a United Kingdom prison and is scheduled to appear in a London court next month over an alleged assault offence.
Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as the Oluomo of Derby and founder of the Community of Nigerians in the United Kingdom, confirmed the development on Monday.
Poco Lee, whose real name is Iweh Odinaka, will appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on September 15, 2026, at 10 am for a plea hearing. At the hearing, he is expected to enter either a guilty or not-guilty plea.
“I can confirm that the reports are true. Poco Lee is currently on remand in a UK prison. His next court date is scheduled for the second week of September, when he is expected to have a plea hearing,” Kuti stated.
He stressed the importance of due process.
“It is important that we allow the legal process to take its course. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
Kuti, who regularly supports members of the Nigerian community facing legal issues in the UK, said he would attend the proceedings.
“I will also be attending the court proceedings as part of my support for the Nigerian community in the UK, to ensure that our fellow Nigerian receives the appropriate support during this difficult period of his life.”
Reports of Poco Lee’s detention first began circulating online around August 19. Details surrounding the alleged offence, including the identity of the complainant and the exact circumstances, remain limited at this time.
